NFI Recognized as a 75 Green Supply Chain Partner by Inbound Logistics for 2013

NFI, a leading supply chain company headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, is pleased to be recognized as a 75 Green Supply Chain Partner for 2013 by Inbound Logistics. Over 200 transportation and logistics companies completed the questionnaire about their sustainability efforts. This is NFI's fourth consecutive year being selected as a Green Supply Chain Partner.

Since 2004, NFI has participated in the EPA SmartWay Transport Partner Program; with Social Responsibility as one of six core values, NFI is committed to creating a positive impact on its carbon footprint by protecting the health and safety of NFI's people, ensuring the integrity of the environment, and being active in the community.

Inbound Logistics selected NFI for this prestigious award because of many sustainability efforts, including outfitting tractors and trailers, the NFI Fit Fleet, with SmartWay-certified tires, computer-regulated speed governors, biofuel, synthetic oil, automatic tire inflation systems, and electric standby motors on refrigerated trailers. A sophisticated recycling program is in place for the Fit Fleet, where items such as tires, electronics, batteries, metals, and waste oil and fluids are recycled through EPA-registered recycling companies. NFI has also been growing its natural gas fleet to further integrate sustainability practices company-wide.

Across the 20+ million sq. ft. of NFI's warehouse space across the country, propane powered forklifts are in use, and plastic wrap materials usage has been reduced by 57 percent per pallet by using high-stretch film which reduces the weight per case and plastic waste. There is also an extensive recycling program integrated across all warehouses.

Within NFI's business lines, the intermodal division has contributed to sustainability through double-stacking containers which creates better fuel efficiency. Improvements in refrigerated container technology and increased payload weight are some of NFI's other advancements.
