The New Chinook Forklift Snowplow Defies Logic; Much More Than a Plow on a Pick-up, at

The New Chinook Forklift Snowplow Defies Logic; Much More Than a Plow on a Pick-up, at ½ the Cost!

Chinook Fork Plow

Canterbury, NH (PRWEB) November 17, 2010

The Chinook Forklift Snow Plow is designed to handle the most difficult lots and demanding winters, featuring a 7 ft plow blade expandable to almost 9 ft. Chip Phinney owner of CP Innovations LLC says "You need to see it, to believe it! Everyone is surprised by what it can do."

CP Innovations LLC offers two Chinook Forklift Snow Plow options. A Manual Angle model operated from the cab and a Power Angle model which utilizes the side shifter hydraulics to actuate the plow blade. Either model simply slips onto the fork tines of most fork trucks, ready to plow at the operators convenience.

Built to perform a multitude of tasks, its simple design is unrivaled. "Originally we wanted a way to deal with the snow in our own yard, but we discovered it had so many great features that we had to make it available to others" said CP.

Businesses have differing needs when it comes to snow removal. When does the snow need to be plowed for customer access or truck deliveries? What areas need to be cleared, parking lots, walkways, etc? Usually there's a spot difficult for a plow truck to access and almost always a question of where to put the snow.

Contracting out the plowing is one solution, but at what cost? Depending upon others for a timely arrival and a satisfactory plowing job can be disappointing. Then there's the decision of what to do when it only snows an inch or two?

Purchasing a plow truck is more involved and with today's economic climate, many companies may not be comfortable making this larger commitment. Lisa Phinney says "Lots of businesses need to cut costs and they already have employees they pay who could do the plowing. In one season they could pay for it! And now with the crazy weather patterns like what happened last year in the south, anyone with a forklift can be ready for those unexpected snowstorms."

CP Innovations is a web based company that manufactures Chinook Fork Plows and ships all products direct to their customers. Inquiries from forklift and material handling companies are welcomed!

Can a Truck Run 7,500 Miles on Veggie Oil?

El Paso, Texas (PRWEB) August 20, 2006

John D. Thomas, President and sole owner of Atex Freight Broker Training, Inc. trains individuals, mostly truckers, to become freight brokers. One major deterrent to entering the broker industry, however, is the decreasing availability of truck drivers. Why? The high cost of fuel is one major reason. Truckers simply cannot keep their "ship afloat".

John states, "Now, it appears, a young high school student may have a solution. This young high school student, recently featured on television, has driven 7,500 miles in his pickup truck on pure vegetable oil. Total cost - about $ 5.00. This ought to get the attention of truckers, and others, who are paying about $ 3.00 per gallon for diesel fuel."

At $ 3.00 per gallon, a 7,500 mile trip will cost the trucker about $ 3,750 if the truck averages six miles per gallon. Just a tad more than the $ 5 trip on veggie oil.

John goes on to say that this does not mean that a trucker will pull up at the gas pump next week or next month and say, "Fill'er up with your veggie stuff and check the tires please".

The point is, however, there are technological advances in the making that could revolutionize the entire transportation industry.

The truck driver shortage would be lessened as transportation costs decrease. And equally important America's dependence on foreign crude would decrease as well.

According to the Energy Information Administration of the U.S. government, about 50% of the cost of diesel fuel is for crude oil. The rest of the cost is for refining, marketing and taxes. So roughly $ 1.50 per gallon of the diesel fuel cost is supporting America's habit for further dependence on foreign sources.

e-forklift.com Examines the Used Forklift Market

Mount Kisco, NY (PRWEB) September 2, 2005

According to e-forklift.com, there is a market for used and reconditioned forklifts.

Used forklifts often sell for thousands of dollars less than new ones. A used forklift has all of the features and advantages of a new forklift at a much lower price. There are several ways to purchase a used forklift. People can purchase used forklifts on eBay, from stores or online retailers, or from forklift exchanges.

As e-Forklift.com explains, it is a good idea to check out the used forklift before putting any money down. As with other used vehicles, used forklifts can be in bad shape and need extensive repair. It is important to be sure that the used forklift is not a lemon. Many used forklift dealers offer Â"better than newÂ" guarantees that assure buyers that the used forklift is in good condition. Many of these warranties are longer lasting and offer more extensive coverage than warranties covering new forklifts.

Many stores that sell new forklifts also sell old ones. They may take used forklifts as trade-ins for new ones, as many car dealerships do with cars. Several well-known and reputable used forklift dealers can be found in any region of the country, and similar services exist over the Internet as well. Internet purchases can be riskier because the buyer may not get to examine the used forklift before buying it, but, usually, it works out fine.

Dallas Contracting Co., Inc. Completes Used Equipment Salvage and Interior Demolition Project

South Plainfield, NJ (PRWEB) March 26, 2005

The clientÂ's goal for the project was to have all equipment removed, interior demolition conducted and cleanup of debris completed without cost to their company. The chemical manufacturing building was approximately 100,000 square feet and contained various equipment and tanks for processing, packaging, filling and storage. There was also a significant amount of equipment and tanks outside of the plant in a courtyard. Pallets and debris needed to be cleaned up in and around the building. In addition, offices and labs had to be cleaned out of miscellaneous debris.

Dallas Contracting Co., Inc. utilized a combination of our interior demolition and rigging crews and our investment recovery and used equipment-purchasing experts to meet the demands of the client.

DallasÂ's first goal was to itemize, salvage and rig out all the resalable used equipment. Packaging and filling line equipment including conveyors were dismantled, match marked and sent to several end user buyers. Stainless steel storage and process tanks were rigged out of the facility using forklifts and equipment rollers. There were over ten (10) stainless steel tanks of various sizes and capacities. Some of the tanks were immediately sold. The remaining tanks were sent to our storage yard to be inventoried for future sales. There were also compressors, transformers, mixers, pumps, valves, and scales that were placed on pallets and either sold immediately or brought back to the yard for inventory and future sale.

Equipment that could not be salvaged for resale included several large damaged stainless steel tanks and miscellaneous extremely old and outdated parts. The stainless steel tanks were cut using a plasma torch and placed into a scrap container for offsite recycling. The miscellaneous parts and metal scraps were also placed into scrap metal containers and sent offsite for recycling. Dallas Contracting Co., Inc. maximized the value of the scrap metal by sorting ferrous and non-ferrous metals and through our strong relationships in the scrap metal market.

There were several loads of debris consisting mostly of pallets and remaining office paper scrap. The debris was sent offsite for non-hazardous disposal.

Through Dallas Contracting Co., Inc.Â's investment recovery and used equipment recovery services, we were able to not only offset the demolition costs but were able to pay the client. The client, who expected at best to break even on the project, was extremely pleased with the outcome.

The entire project was completed in a month. There were no injuries or incidents as safety is the number one priority for Dallas Contracting.

Dallas Contracting Co., Inc. is a demolition, salvage and concrete crushing contractor based in New Jersey. We have been in business for over 25 years, are financially sound (D&B Rating of 3A2 and bondable. Our work is completed professionally with an OSHA trained workforce. Brace Yourself Against Costly Pallet Rack Damage

Stevens Point, WI (PRWEB) May 30, 2007

With the costs of warehouse storage space on the rise, including both the actual floor square footage and the pallet rack inside the facility, a company certainly doesn't need any additional unplanned costs to maintain their warehouse.

One such cost is for replacing forklift-damaged pallet racking, especially with open column, bolt-together storage racks.

"Wherever there is a lot of damage to uprights, it's usually occurring because the fork truck drivers are using the uprights as guides," says Kurt Larson, Central Regional Sales Manager for Steel King, Inc. "They're bumping the uprights on the front or the sides, coming around corners, and bumping into the lower portion of the frame."

Larson has encountered installations in which they have tried to make open-column, bolt-together pallet racks more rigid and damage resistant by placing 2 open columns back-to-back, with a 3" column in the front and a 1 5/8" column welded behind it. The problem is the hollow area inside the columns, which can still allow the upright to bend inward if hit with forks. Needless to say, this is a dangerous situation that could result in a pallet storage rack collapse.

A far more rigid installation is Steel King's SK2000 tubular boltless pallet rack, the benchmark system in the storage market, reinforced with a C-shaped column insert called the Column Core. The SK2000, which is fully welded and not bolted together, is already 2 1/2 times more impact resistant than its competition. With the Column Core reinforcement added it becomes a full 5 times more impact resistant at the front corners and sides where the uprights are most vulnerable.

"The problem with the open-column, bolt-together storage rack is that in the short term you save money, but in the long term you'll have to keep replacing parts of it or the whole rack." Larson says. "With an SK2000 re-enforced with Column Core, you'll almost never have to replace it."

Larson knows of what he speaks. In visiting a client a short time ago, he found that the client had installed open-column, bolt-together racks and was paying $ 4,000 to $ 8,000 per month in rack repair. "The guy that came in to run the warehouse took one look and said, 'we're done with this,'" Larson relates. "He ended up installing the SK2000 pallet racking with Column Core in the front uprights, and has had no more problems."

Because most fork truck damage is in the lower 48 inches of rack uprights, that is where the Column Core is usually installed and where it will provide the most benefit. However Column Core is sold in standard heights from 6 to 96 inches, in 6-inch increments, and custom heights are available upon request.

Column Core is a factory installed option to Steel King's SK2000 tubular, boltless pallet rack. With Column Core installed, companies retain full adjustability of their pallet rack beams, reduce puncturing, buckling and torsional twisting of their rack uprights, and increased protection without any additional installation costs.

Introducing the SK4000 Structural Tubular Pallet Rack for the Heaviest Loads and Harshest Environments

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2008

For storage applications involving heavy loads, seismic locations, greater impact resistance, rack-supported buildings, and/or increased vertical heights such as automatic storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), the new SK4000 Structural Tubular Pallet Rack by Steel King delivers by combining the load capacity of structural channel racks with the torsional strength of tubular steel.

Unlike conventional racks which offer load capacity in the 30,000 lbs. range, the SK4000 Structural Tubular Pallet Rack, with bolted beam connections, has the frame strength to support loads over 70,000 lbs. This is more than enough rack capacity for even the heaviest die storage rack or auto part applications. Thick structural tube steel increases the frames' load-carrying capacity and resistance to seismic forces while enabling greater resistance to fork truck impact damage.

All SK4000 columns are tubular members of A-500 grade "B" steel with minimum tensile of 58,000 PSI and minimum yield of 46,000 PSI. To meet the installation requirements, it's available in standard column sizes of 3" x 3", 4" x 3" and 4" x 4" with thicknesses of 1/8" or 3/16". Tubular columns, along with the rigidity of an all welded upright frame, make it the perfect choice for rack-supported buildings and AS/RS.

For added strength and stability, its uprights incorporate fully welded, tubular steel for both horizontal and diagonal bracing. Beams are securely fastened to uprights using heavy-duty grade 5 hardware. Additionally, beam connection holes are drilled on the column's sides, not the corners, minimizing column strength loss. Standard column punching on the storage rack provides users the flexibility to adjust beam elevations in 3" increments.

Unique among racks, the SK4000 Structural Tubular Pallet Rack can be made to meet your exact preferences for adjustability and cleanliness. The columns may include holes for beam locations throughout the entire rack height, limited to just the locations used, or anything in between.

For maximum sanitation, with the limited connection hole option, a user can create a rack system with no exposed holes in the columns, making the SK4000 Structural Tubular Pallet Rack the perfect choice for industries in need of a more sanitary storage option, such as food and pharmaceutical facilities. In addition to the closed tubular columns and bracing, all seamless welding and position drilled beam holes, its columns can be fitted with welded-on caps eliminating all potential gaps for internal contamination. Tubular rectangle braces can also be rotated 45 degrees creating diamond shaped bracing, with no flat surfaces exposed for potential germ collection - creating the ultimate sanitary rack.

A highly durable, powder coat paint finish on the SK4000 Structural Tubular Pallet Rack offers better gloss, hardness and adhesion than typical enamel paints for greater resistance to fork truck impact, solvents and corrosion. A choice of twelve standard colors allows color-coding the storage racks by use or for aesthetics. An optional galvanized finish is also available to meet USDA requirements.

For more info, contact Donald Heemstra at Steel King, 2700 Chamber St., Stevens Point, WI 54481; call 800-826-0203 or visit the website www.steelking.com.

e-forklift.com Identifies the Most Important Forklift Parts

(PRWEB) January 14, 2006

According to e-forklift.com, there are several components that all forklifts have in common. These forklift parts are vital to the operation of the equipment. Forks, brake components, and transmissions are some of the parts that are purchased most often.

Forklift parts can be purchased from several sources. Both new and used parts are usually available wherever forklifts are sold. Many dealerships have extensive catalogues that list the parts they have available. There are a number of different manufacturers of forklift parts. The same company that made the forklift can make the replacement parts or a generic maker can manufacture them.

As e-Forklift.com explains, the forks are possibly the most important component of the forklift. Without quality forks, the lift is not able to transport cargo efficiently. The forks, also called blades or tines, vary greatly from model to model. Most forks are made of steel. Forks differ in the amount of weight they can handle. Weaker model forks can safely lift 900 pounds, while heavy-duty forks are capable of lifting several tons. It is important to note that a forklift's weight capacity depends on much more than just the forks. The engine size and the strength of the lifting system also play important roles in determining how much a forklift can safely carry.

Forklift brake parts are other important parts. Forklift brakes operate in a similar manner to the brakes of an automobile and they have many parts in common. Brake shoes and break drums are among the most commonly purchased forklift brake parts.

V. Suarez Turns to New Warehouse, Pallet Rack System

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) November 12, 2008

V. Suarez, the largest food and beverage distributor in Puerto Rico, had outgrown its patchwork of distribution facilities across the island. To enhance customer service, logistical control and process efficiency in delivering 500 brands to 6,000 accounts on $ 600 million in sales, the company chose to consolidate distribution at a single new facility with a state-of-the-art pallet rack and warehouse management system.

"Consolidating warehouse operations under one roof would allow us to pursue growth," says Wallace Santos Guzman, Vice President of Operations at V. Suarez.

Since fork truck impact can be inevitable in warehouse operations, pallet rack construction and durability were key considerations in the new distribution facility, according to Santos Guzman.

To facilitate the warehouse design and specification process, St. Onge Company, a world-renowned supply chain and engineering consulting firm, was chosen.

V. Suarez and St. Onge Company jointly chose a number of rack offerings from Steel King, a major storage rack designer and manufacturer. Selective rack, push back rack, and drive in rack were chosen, along with decked rack and carton flow rack. Over 100 containers of rack were shipped from the U.S. to Puerto Rico in an exact sequence that mirrored the installers' 8-phase schedule. This helped V. Suarez efficiently move into their new facility on time over a long weekend.

"Since lift trucks can do a lot of rack damage in warehouse operations, we chose to proactively handle the situation," says Jorge Arseda, who oversaw the project as St. Onge's Director of Distribution Practice.

"While both structural and roll formed rack will support pallet weight, structural rack such as Steel King's resists fork truck impacts much better," says Arseda. "That's important for V. Suarez to maintain long-term operational efficiency and avoidance of business disruptions."

Compared to typical racking, the SK3000 pallet rack used, constructed of hot-rolled structural channel column with full horizontal-diagonal bracing, offers greater frame strength, durability and cross-sectional area.

For single deep rack SK2000 pallet rack was used, a boltless, closed tubular upright product by Steel King. Since the rack is powder coated rather than painted with enamel, it's 94% more resistant to chips and scratches.

"The powder coated finish provides a better, longer-lasting surface, more resistant to scratches," says Arseda. "That's important since the new distribution center isn't just a warehouse, but also a display facility. The Ultimate in Cost Effective Storage: The Boltless Pallet Rack

Stevens Point, WI (PRWEB) December 18, 2006

These days, most companies must make the absolute most of their warehouse space. A high percentage of companies also have constantly shifting inventory, a limited budget for storage material, and the need to make existing racking last as long as possible. For such facilities, the boltless pallet rack is a worthy option.

"Industries which benefit the most from boltless racks are those with the need to adjust their storage rack configurations on a frequent basis, as the products they handle change with increasing frequency. The ability to move shelf levels without tools is the biggest benefit of boltless rack," says Jay Anderson, president of Steel King Industries, Inc., a leading manufacturer of materials handling products for warehousing, distribution and manufacturing industries.

Boltless pallet racks have their primary advantages in a low purchase price, the ability to assemble without tools, and ability to carry heavy loads. A third-party installer is not always needed to adjust storage positions, as the shelf levels can be easily adjusted. It is important to note however that beam level location affects load carrying capacity, so users should verify with the manufacturer that the racks will work safely in the new configuration before making any adjustments.

Buyers of new racks, however, are discovering that the traditional open-back roll formed columns used in these types of racks do not easily withstand forklift impacts, negating any savings gained in the initial purchase. Many are turning to a design that utilizes closed tubular column shapes, such as Steel King's SK2000 boltless pallet rack system.

This system retains the industry standard "tear drop" connection, and is interchangeable with most existing "tear drop" systems in use, but the closed tube column design generates more resistance to accidental fork truck impacts. Replacement is actually easy, as the stronger columns can often be utilized with existing load beams.

"This system has been proven in an independent test to have 250% more resistance to fork truck damage," Anderson says. "The product lasts longer, and a more durable system can be an important part of an overall safety improvement program."

The system has 44 times more torsional strength (resistance to twisting) and 68 percent more side impact resistance. A 3-rivet connection is used for beams, offering 26% greater strength than the standard 2-rivet connection. Heavy 10-guage footpads are welded directly to the uprights, dispersing the column load more efficiently than conventional lighter footpads. 2" beam adjustments allow for needed flexibility in load adjustment. Welds between braces and column are full fillet welds, with up to 4 times the amount of weld used on other rack systems. Also, due to no open backs on the columns, braces, or on step beams, the pallet racking also remains cleaner.

This line also offers a wide variety of column sizes, a number of which are not available elsewhere. The large 4" wide column has proven very competitive in meeting new seismic design parameters specified by local building departments.

For even further strength, extra damage protection is available in the company's Column Core--an optional C-shaped column reinforcement welded inside each column. This addition further reduces puncturing, buckling and twisting, yet still allows full beam adjustability. To save cost, the Column Core can be added only where needed, usually in the lower 12" to 48" of an upright frame where fork truck damage is most likely to occur. With this addition, SK2000 boltless racks can actually have more abuse resistance than structural bolted racks.

"The kind of strength available with the Column Core is pretty surprising to end users who quite often look at the bolted structural design as the ultimate in the abuse resistant rack," says Anderson.

In today's uncertain economy, new solutions such as the boltless pallet rack solve storage concerns with cost-effective reliability.

New Opportunity With New Warehouse Design, Pallet Rack

Stevens Point, WI (PRWEB) October 17, 2007

Generac, an industrial and residential power generator manufacturer, knew it was time for a new distribution center and pallet rack system. Inefficient storage, picking, and shipping of finished product from an old, traditional warehouse was hampering employee productivity and product delivery.

After research and analysis, Generac sought to turn its logistics challenge into opportunity by building a warehouse using an innovative fishbone aisle design layout with selective pallet racking. The fishbone aisle design can reduce warehouse logistics cost by 20% and speed delivery compared to traditional layouts, according to recent research by the University of Arkansas.

"Using the fishbone aisle warehouse design and pallet racking, we aimed to tighten our supply chain and streamline delivery to customers with existing staff," says Adam Barber, a Generac industrial engineer tasked with improving warehouse logistics and efficiency.

"To sustain operational efficiency, we needed a strong, reliable pallet rack that could withstand inevitable fork truck impact," adds Barber. "Open back uprights weren't up to the challenge in our experience. We wanted to avoid unloading product to fix or replace damaged storage racks, then reloading product."

For help integrating the right storage racking system with fork trucks and the fishbone aisle layout, Generac turned to Wisconsin Lift Truck Corp., a material handling and automated systems distributor.

Kristine Rauch, the Wisconsin Lift Truck industrial engineer who helped with system integration, recommended and Generac chose the SK2000 pallet rack, a boltless, closed tubular upright product by Steel King, a leading manufacturer of material handling and storage racking products.

While easy, boltless assembly of the system within three weeks helped Generac meet its distribution center opening date, a number of other features helped the company meet its strength, durability, and maintenance goals for use with the fishbone aisle design layout.

Compared to open back roll formed columns, the closed tubular uprights are 44 times more torsion/twist resistant, with 250% greater frontal impact resistance and 68% greater side impact resistance. All beams are constructed of high-strength (55,000 p.s.i. minimum) steel, and holes are placed on the column's face, not the corners, minimizing strength loss. "The strength of the uprights allowed us to add a necessary fishbone cross aisle for our fork trucks to pass through," says Barber.

To make their storage racking system even more fork truck resistant, Generac opted for Column Core column reinforcement, which can make the SK2000 rack five times more impact resistant at the front corners and sides where the upright is the most vulnerable.

Because the rack is powder coated rather than painted with enamel, it's 94% more resistant to chips and scratches. "Properly used, the pallet rack will look and operate the same in 10 years as it did on install," says Rauch.

"Any volume manufacturer who wants to maximize the use of staff and facilities should consider the fishbone warehouse layout with a pallet rack like the SK2000," concludes Barber. "With them, we're tightening our supply chain, getting more from existing employees, and giving faster, better service to our customers."

Traka Saves Tesco 2 Minutes - With the Potential to Save Over

Working with leading UK retail supermarket giant Tesco, Traka is to improve the current key control and access management system for Fork Trucks in 3 new and 19 existing UK distribution centres. Initially this will involve upgrading over 2,200 Fork Trucks at Tesco sites.

Olney, Buckinghamshire (PRWeb UK) 14 August 2009 -- Working with leading UK retail supermarket giant Tesco, Traka is to improve the current key control and access management system for Fork Trucks in 3 new and 19 existing UK distribution centres. Initially this will involve upgrading over 2,200 Fork Trucks at Tesco sites.

As part of a bigger 'improved productivity' project, the goal was to work with Tesco to help reduce the time taken at shift start-up to first pick, from a typical 20 to 25 minutes to a target of only 6.

Previously keys for Fork Trucks were collected and returned to the Traka cabinet at the beginning and end of each shift. Tesco has identified that staff accessing the existing key management cabinets could create a significant bottleneck when they gather to collect or return keys.

By adopting a new approach to key management, some 2 minutes per person, per truck, across all shifts has been saved. Godfrey Anderson, MHE Sales Manager, comments, "Looking at this small time saving across all trucks on 3 shifts, throughout the Tesco UK Distribution Centres, equates to some 80,000 hours per year or over £1m in improved productivity."

By changing from the tried and tested 'key per truck' to an 'iKey per Person' approach it allows each driver to be given their own personal issue intelligent key - a Traka iFob key. This intelligent key is inserted into a receptor socket on the dashboard of the truck and replaces the existing ignition key or PIN access pad as a means to start the truck.

The iFob contains an electronic chip which holds the drivers personal profile and will only start trucks for which he or she have been trained, so there is now no need for a driver to go back to the cabinet to swap keys should they need to move from one truck to another. It is issued once and then retained by the driver as part of their PPE. He or she need only return to a Traka data download station to 'reinitialise' their iFob key once a day; this can be at any convenient time, usually at the end of each shift.

As before, the Traka iFob key is used to enforce and record that pre-operational safety checks have been completed by the driver on each truck driven. A full audit of trucks driven is held, and the information is downloaded to the Traka database without the need for expensive RF transmission equipment.

Anticipated savings for Tesco are in excess of £1m per year for improved productivity. Initial trials at a test site indicated that a full return on investment could be achieved in less than three months, as well as deliver year on year savings for Tesco.

If you would like to know more about Traka's iFob per Person application or any other MHE solution that might be of benefit your organisation - please contact us by telephone on +44 (0)1234 712345 or use our 'contact us' form on www.traka.com, where you can give a brief overview of what you are looking to achieve.
