Jungheinrich's Rapid Growth Reflected In New Landsberg Plant

Jungheinrich's Rapid Growth Reflected In New Landsberg Plant

Hamburg, Germany (PRWEB) December 24, 2007

Jungheinrich AG, one of the world's largest material handling equipment and logistics solutions suppliers, is expanding its production capacity as a complement to its phenomenal corporate growth and increased worldwide demand. The Hamburg-based company will construct a new plant for the manufacture of electric walkie trucks in Landsberg, near Halle in Saxony-Anhalt, a German state in the east-central part of the country. Production startup is scheduled for the middle of 2009.

Jungheinrich expects the market to continue growing in the years to come and is rapidly adapting its production capacity to suit this situation. Landsberg will be home to an independent center of excellence for electric walkie trucks. This means that, in addition to manufacturing, product development and product management for these forklifts will be located there as well. The construction of the plant is estimated to create over 100 new jobs in Landsberg. The project has a budget of approximately 30 million euros (44 million US dollars).

By taking this first step, Jungheinrich will have an annual production capacity that covers some 15,000 square meters and totals 30,000 trucks. As is already the case at the present Norderstedt site, the forklifts are to be assembled on a production line run on a 'takt' time system, which assigns preset, required assembly times to individual workstations. This means more planning accuracy when scheduling and building trucks. A production area for steel-work and an environmentally-friendly powder coating facility will be set up in addition to the assembly unit.

Landsberg has a very good transport infrastructure, including highway access, train connections and Leipzig Airport, which is located in the vicinity. "Another factor that made it easier for us to choose this site was the great commitment made by both state and local policymakers," stated project director, Dr. Marc Ehrmann.

At present, Jungheinrich is building electric walkie trucks in Norderstedt, which is close to Hamburg. This is also where electric stacker trucks, reach trucks, and components such as controls and masts are built for the Group; moreover, the central spare parts logistics center for Central and Northern Europe is situated in Norderstedt. The Norderstedt plant was modernized extensively between 2005 and 2007. Shifting electric walkie truck production to Landsberg will free up room in Norderstedt to increase production output for the products remaining at that site. Jungheinrich employees working in Norderstedt will continue to work on these production lines.

About Jungheinrich

Founded over fifty years ago, the company has grown from its beginnings as a European manufacturer of materials handling equipment to an international supplier of industrial trucks, warehousing technology and materials-flow products. Jungheinrich Introduces Versatile New HC 110b Power Lift Stacker

Jungheinrich Introduces Versatile New HC 110b Power Lift Stacker

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) January 25, 2008

The HC 110b Power Lift Stacker from Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp. is a manually-propelled electric lift that's ideal for occasional light-duty stacking operations and for the loading and unloading of trailers from ground height. With its stable and reliable operation, the HC 110b is an excellent choice for warehouses and small manufacturing or assembly shops, plus it is a great cost-effective alternative to similar trucks fitted with a drive motor.

Add the optional steel platform to turn this electric lift into a work table - just raise or lower the platform to the correct ergonomic working height to increase efficiency and prevent injuries associated with manual lifting.

Further protection against injury is provided by built-in toe guards on the steering casters. Additionally, the truck's large diameter nylon steer casters (7.1 x 2.0 inches) enable effortless pushing or pulling during transport, while the mechanical parking brake is easily engaged for secure parking.

The stacker's powerful 1.6 kW AC lift motor easily handles up to 2,200 pounds of capacity. Load lift heights range from 63 to 137 inches, accomplished with four available lift heights: 63, 98, 118 and 137 inches. The truck's adjustable forks are fitted as standard and can be precisely positioned to the correct lift height by the electro-hydraulic lift controls. In addition, the fully adjustable straddle legs increase the versatility of the lift, allowing for a wide variety of load sizes.

The new stacker features an integrated charger which can be connected to any 110/120V outlet to charge the unit's single 12V, 105 Ah battery. This wet cell, deep-cycle battery provides ample power to repetitively raise and lower the fork carriage over the course of an average, 8-hour work day.

Intelligently-designed and positioned operator controls include an ergonomic control handle, a prominently-displayed emergency disconnect switch and easily accessible lift/lower buttons that facilitate precise fork positioning. The operator display also includes an LED-type battery discharge indicator that accurately measures the truck's available battery life.

The HC 110b stacker is currently in stock and available for order. For more information, contact Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp., 5601 Eastport Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23231. Call: 804-737-7400. Fax: 804-737-7467. Or, visit the website at http://www.jungheinrich-us.com.

New Goalrilla DC Basketball Hoops Suspend the Weight of a Car

New Goalrilla DC Basketball Hoops Suspend the Weight of a Car

Two DC Basketball Hoops from Goalrilla proving their strength.

Evansville IN (PRWEB) April 26, 2011

Goalrilla basketball has long claimed to build the toughest basketball systems on the planet. Now, with the introduction of the company's newest basketball hoop – the DC – Goalrilla is proving its claim again, and in a dramatic way.

In late March of this year, the engineers of Goalrilla basketball hoops devised a demonstration to show the strength of the new DC (Direct Connect) hoop. To prove that the new Goalrilla can withstand 1 ton (2,000 lbs.) of vertical torque, a car was suspended from two DC hoops. A film crew was invited to document the test. First, two fork trucks lifted the car into place where it hung from the Goalrilla hoops. Then, two members of the film crew climbed into the car. Next, two athletes jumped up to hang from the rims. The combined weight of all hanging from the DC hoops totaled 3,856 lbs. The video of this test can be found at http://www.goalrilla.com/basketball-hoops/.

Supporting this amount of weight is impossible with practically all other basketball hoops, especially the adjustable systems. At the very least, the backboards would shatter on competitive systems under this much weight.

The new Goalrilla basketball hoop, however, takes its name – DC – and its peculiar strength from the unique steel cage structure that supports the backboard, and which sets the DC apart from other hoops. The vertical forces on the Goalrilla DC are transferred via a DIRECT CONNECTION to a 4" steel beam – completely bypassing the backboard glass and its frame. As a result, the DC's strength rivals any driveway, institutional, or arena basketball hoop that is made today. Most important, a structural design that completely bypasses the backboard and the frame is unique among adjustable basketball systems.

In traditional adjustable goals, the solid support behind the rim is removed to create one of the pivot points through a bolt that allows the board to go up and down. As a result, typical adjustable goals rely on the board frame and the board surface to absorb vertical forces during play. The amount of force the goal can take is limited by the strength of the glass in the board surface. This design is similar to that used by the NBA until a few years ago. It allows the dramatic backboard glass shattering when downward force on the rim surpasses the strength of the glass. This phenomenon helped make the Shaq Attack a household word.

When vertical forces on the Goalrilla DC are transferred via a DIRECT CONNECTION to a 4" steel beam – this possibility is eliminated. The strength of the basketball hoop is reliant upon the entire steel system, and not only the glass backboard. Goalrilla is the first to bring this design to market in an adjustable system. According to Evan Lederman, Category Manager at Escalade Sports, the parent company of Goalrilla, "the DC is built Goalrilla tough to handle the most brutal play. This is what all Goalrilla hoops are known for. We're really proud of what the engineers have brought to our new line with the DC." The DC joins the Goalrilla line of sports training equipment as the strongest driveway basketball hoop that can be found. Because of its dramatic strength, the DC also has a place in institutional settings.

"At Goalrilla, we like to say 'it takes more to be here'," says Lederman. "It takes more to be a dedicated athlete, and more to be the type of basketball equipment that can carry the name Goalrilla." Goalrilla basketball hoops can be found at dealers and sporting goods stores across North America. For a complete listing of where to find a Goalrilla, visit http://www.goalrilla.com/dealer-locator.

Escalade Sports manufactures and distributes a full-line of Sporting Goods products including Goalrilla basketball systems and sports training equipment. Jungheinrich Expands Its Line of Reach Trucks With The New Space-Efficient and Extremely Rugged Indoor/Outdoor ETV C20

Jungheinrich Expands Its Line of Reach Trucks With The New Space-Efficient and Extremely Rugged Indoor/Outdoor ETV C20

RICHMOND, VA (PRWEB) December 22, 2005

The Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp., a world leader in warehouse logistics technology, is announcing the ETV C20, an efficient new electric reach truck designed to excel at stacking and retrieval of merchandise stored at high lift heights and in confined spaces. This rugged new workhorse is ideal both for moving pallets and doing continuous racking on single or multiple shifts. This truck is tough. Outdoor and severe-weather use is a possibility with several optional weatherproof cabin configurations, and the truck's super-elastic tires can negotiate both smooth and bumpy floor surfaces.

With its compact dimensions and Reach Mast feature, the ETV C20 is a natural for working narrow aisle widths (down to 112.4 in. or 9.3 ft.). What's more, it can lift loads of up to 4,400 lbs to heights up to 291.3 in. (24.3 ft.), and both its mast tilt and optional fork side-shift features can enhance fork maneuverability while the vehicle is stacking or accessing loads.

The heart of the truck is its proprietary 3-phase AC motor technology, providing power for travel, lift, steering and braking. Jungheinrich discovered years ago that three-phase AC offers significant advantages over traditional direct current shunt-wound motors. For example, it enables strong acceleration and eliminates hesitation shifting into reverse. And with no carbon brushes to wear, an AC motor is essentially maintenance-free, keeping the vehicle operational longer. In addition, the truck reclaims its kinetic energy during braking and stores it back in the battery; as a result, much less time is wasted on recharging stops. This robust new truck will keep working for the user, moving merchandise, shift after shift.

Jungheinrich understands that driver comfort and safety translate to greater productivity and, ultimately, lower costs. Accordingly, they've given a lot of thought to ergonomics in this design. Ergonomic features include a generous cabin workspace with plenty of legroom. Visibility is superb and both the seat settings and the steering wheel angle can be adjusted to suit the operator. The ETV's SOLO-PILOT feature conveniently groups all essential controls in one location, including those for load lifting and lowering, travel direction, horn and the optional fork side-shift. Mast reach and mast tilt are controlled by two separate levers, and the LISA liquid crystal display constantly informs the operator of all key system functions in one easy-to-see console. To further enhance safety while driving, all essential hand controls can be easily accessed by the operator with no need to reach backwards. The sideways-facing cabin seat affords the operator outstanding visibility even when transporting high loads.

For more information about the new ETV C20, contact Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp., 5701 Eastport Boulevard, Richmond, VA 2323. Call 888-333-2644 toll free, or phone 804-737-6084. FAX 804-737-6131. Or, visit the website at http://www.jungheinrich-us.com.

Fleet and Operator Information Generates Continuous Improvement for Material Handling Managers

Fleet and Operator Information Generates Continuous Improvement for Material Handling Managers

Access to data provided directly from the lift trucks allows managers to make staffing and equipment adjustments to maintain efficiency in the warehouse.

New Bremen, OH (PRWEB) April 14, 2011

Crown Equipment Corporation suggests key ways material handling managers can utilize their fleet and operator information to help reduce costs and improve operations.

Industry Trends

Increased competition has led many in the material handling field to focus on efficiency, utilization, availability and optimization of assets.

Data generated at the forklift level can be transformed into usable information enabling managers to focus on operational and performance issues quickly and efficiently.

Historically, data that was available from forklifts was not delivered to fleet managers in a way that was easy to understand and supported decision making.

Operations that utilize both a fleet management system and a warehouse management system (WMS) prefer both systems to run on a single Windows-based vehicle-mounted computer (VMC).

Key Ways Material Handling Managers May Benefit from Fleet and Operator Information

Maximize Productivity – To truly maximize productivity and cost containment, managers must monitor everyday forklift actions such as the number of loads moved per day, motion and idle time, speed, distance, and the number of impacts by operators, among others. At-a-glance digital dashboards for asset management enable managers to monitor all of these elements easily and to gauge performance against established productivity goals.

Manage Performance – Organized operator information can help managers identify immediate opportunities for performance improvement and operational efficiencies, and help guide them through the decision-making process. This information can be reported in real time, allowing managers to identify the continuous improvement actions they're taking.

Maximize Energy and Service – Properly maintained forklifts will have a longer life that allows managers to reduce spending on new equipment. Something simple such as charging a forklift's battery prematurely can be detrimental to the battery in the long run. Fleet information enables managers to proactively and quickly identify maintenance issues in order to properly maintain their equipment for optimal use. More specifically, managers can use organized forklift summary information to manage daily performance checks and preventive maintenance, and expedite breakdown repairs.

Know When Equipment Replacement is Necessary – Throughout time, equipment will reach a point where productivity will steadily decrease while maintenance costs rise. Managers can use fleet information to identify exactly when repair costs outweigh equipment's usefulness.

Comply with OSHA – OSHA regulations are designed to help ensure safe environments for workers. Material handling managers can maintain compliance with these regulations by monitoring and logging the completion of daily operator checklists and the amount of time operators spend performing safety checks. If users are not in compliance with OSHA regulations, managers can make immediate adjustments to ensure safety in the facility.

Reduce Time Spent on False Impact Alarms – As many as 70 percent of impact alarms are considered nuisance alarms. If forklifts are equipped with a scalable impact sensor, material handling managers can use fleet information to help ensure they only receive alarms for events they define as impacts, while also having an easy-to-monitor visual cue for when impacts require management attention.

Plan Effectively – Understanding how much equipment is needed during any given time of the day is important for material handling managers. Fleet and operator information can show when trucks are in use, how long they are in use, and what they are being used for. Once equipped with this information, managers can start to better understand their optimum fleet size and best use of each unit.

Monitor and Manage Remotely – Material handling managers have several responsibilities and managing their fleet is just one of them. Remote visibility of fleet and operator information allows managers to monitor all of their equipment across multiple locations from a single location. This means less guesswork and more focus on efficiency, utilization, availability and optimization of assets.

Quotes Attributable to Jim Gaskell, global director Insite™

Fleet and operator management systems provide material handling managers with real time information on operator compliance, impact management, operator productivity, equipment utilization, energy and service, allowing managers the opportunity to make meaningful and strategic improvements to their operation.

Fleet and operator management systems allow managers to proactively address issues before they turn into bad habits.

Built-in dashboards eliminate the need for reams of raw data from vehicle management systems, enabling material handling managers to quickly and easily compare their operation against predefined goals in real time. For example, dashboards can identify unmet expectations by illuminating a warning indicator. The user can then easily drill down to specific details with just a few mouse clicks.

Results will vary, of course, but we've seen customers utilize a fleet and operator management system to take actions that directly save costs in less than 24 months. For example, one of our major users was able to reduce their fleet size by 40 percent based on insights from their fleet information.
