Mark Talks Disability with David Cameron

Leicester entrepreneur Mark Esho has told the Prime Minister his story of overcoming disability to establish and grow a successful 12-year-old business.

Mark, founder of Easy Internet Services, was one of five people who talked with David Cameron at the launch of the Government's Disability Confidence campaign.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, Business Secretary Vince Cable and Minister for Disabled People Esther McVey at the event in London.

David Cameron was keen to hear the story of Mark and four other disabled business people and employees. Disability Confidence is a two year advertising campaign to help businesses become more confident about recruiting disabled people.

Mark said: "It was a very engaged discussion about disability. Being the father of a disabled child, it is a subject he knows a lot about. I told him about the challenges facing a disabled person in business and how I set up Easy Internet Services."

Mark said the fact he was black and had a disability – he is unable to walk long distances because of childhood polio – made establishing his business much harder. A decade on, and his company, Easy Internet Services & Solutions, in Enderby Road, Leicester employs 20 people and has 50,000 customers. Easy Internet provides a wide range of services including Web Hosting & Domain Name Registration (FreeVirtualServers.com), Search Engine Optimisation (123Ranking.co.uk), Social Media Marketing (123SocialMedia.co.uk), and Online Storage (FreeVirtualServers.com/online-storage-drive).

Around 300 employers, including FTSE 100 companies, attended the London conference to launch the campaign.

According to the Department of Work and Pensions, there are 6.9 million disabled people of working age in Great Britain, and the employment rate for disabled people has increased gradually over the years from 42.2% in 2002 to 46.3% in 2012.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: "I am delighted we are holding this first Disability Employment Conference and launching this new campaign to help employers become confident employing disabled people.

"This isn't just about doing what is right for disabled people. Employing disabled people makes business sense too. We need to break the myth about the complexities of employing disabled people, or to put it more simply – to give employers confidence."
